Fen Ditton

Fen Ditton was first mentioned in AD950 as Dittone "village by the Ditch" on the side of Fleam Dyke an ancient defensive ditch and banks. It is still on water meadows that flood regularly to this day.

This ancient typical English village, with church, pub, post office and diverse architecture,is on the River Cam that runs through CAMBRIDGE.

Fen Ditton's main activities is based on this stretch of the river. The "BUMPS". A rowing event run over several days where boats do not race side by side as in a regatta but in a line; the aim being to bump the boat in front. Boats which are "bumped" are demoted in order for the next days racing.

These images seek to capture village life in all its facets.
